Among the Wildflowers

July 2023 — exhibit design

Did you know Tom Petty was originally from Gainesville, FL?

I had the opportunity to design the Tom Petty: Among the Wildflowers exhibit for the Cade Museum, located in his hometown.

This exhibit is based on the 2021 documentary Tom Petty: Somewhere You Feel Free – The Making of Wildflowers. I designed each wall to depict a section of the album’s creative process: songwriting, recording, and reception + delivery.

The wall art features notable quotes from the songs, textures and patterns found in the album’s lyric book, black and white photographs, and Tom Petty’s handwritten lyrics.

Team: Lydia Wilson / Ellie Thom / Sydney Burge

The exhibit tells the story through panels, quotes, and real artifacts. These are balanced together across each unique wall through color, typography, photography, and varying heights of the elements for visual interest.

Featuring artifacts previously shown at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I reimagined a new exhibit to fit the Cade’s look and feel, complete with a custom wordmark and interactive activities for guests.
